NEW: JD Vance Championed Report From Project 2025 Architects Attacking IVF and Calling to Ban Abortion Nationwide Arrow

In response to new reporting on JD Vance championing an 2017 report from the Heritage Foundation, a Project 2025 architect,DNC Spokesperson Aida Ross released the following statement:

"JD Vance thought the Heritage Foundation's calls to make abortion 'unthinkable' and attacks on IVF were so 'admirable' that he penned an endorsement of their plan. Now, Vance is running with Donald Trump, with a dangerous Project 2025 agenda to ban abortion nationwide with or without Congress and threaten IVF access - a dangerous blueprint written and promoted by the same far-right extremists. The Trump-Vance ticket's attacks on our reproductive freedoms are dangerous, out-of-touch, and wildly unpopular with the American people, who are ready to reject them this November."

JD Vance championed a report from the organization leading Project 2025, which called to ban abortion nationwide, opposed IVF, and more.

New York Times: "Years before he became the Republican vice-presidential nominee, JD Vance endorsed a little-noticed 2017 report by the Heritage Foundation that proposed a sweeping conservative agenda to restrict sexual and reproductive freedoms and remake American families.

"In a series of 29 separate essays, conservative commentators, policy experts, community leaders and Christian clergy members opposed the spread of in vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments, describing those treatments as harmful to women. They praised the rapidly expanding number of state laws restricting abortion rights and access, saying that the procedure should become 'unthinkable' in America…

"Mr. Vance, then known as the author of a best-selling memoir, became a champion of the project. He wrote the introduction and praised the volume as 'admirable,' and was the keynote speaker at the public release of the report at Heritage's offices in Washington…

"Taken together, the pieces in the report amount to an effort to instruct Americans on what their families should be, when to grow them and the best way to raise their children. Authors argued in the 2017 report that women should become pregnant at younger ages and that a two-parent, heterosexual household was the 'ideal' environment for children…

"One of the essays takes a deeply skeptical view of in vitro fertilization and other fertility treatments, arguing that they cause women to be 'lured into the belief that they can have children whenever they are finally ready.'"

Vance has cozied up to Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts in the past and praised Project 2025 - which is "undeniably a Trump-driven operation" - as containing "good ideas."

Vance: "I've reviewed a lot of [Project 2025]. There are some good ideas in there."

Nick Corasaniti, New York Times: "[Kevin Roberts] reacted to the news [of Vance's VP selection] 'with a broad smile on my face' and said that 'privately, we were really rooting for him.'"

Gram Slattery, Reuters: "Vance is very close to Heritage and even wrote the [foreword] for a book from the think tank's president. Project 2025 is of course organized by Heritage."

Vox: "Kevin Roberts, the president of the right-wing Heritage Foundation and the driving force behind Project 2025, told Ward that '[Vance] is absolutely going to be one of the leaders - if not the leader - of our movement.'"

Vance's anti-choice record includes wanting abortion to be "illegal nationally," criticizing exceptions for rape and incest, comparing abortion to slavery, and more.

"During a podcast interview in January 2022, then-candidate JD Vance said he 'certainly would like abortion to be illegal nationally' and was 'sympathetic' to the view that a national ban was necessary to stop women from traveling across states to obtain an abortion."

The Trump-Vance ticket is in lockstep, pushing an extreme anti-choice Project 2025 agenda as their allies plot to ban abortion nationwide and rip away reproductive care.

REALITY CHECK: Attacks on reproductive rights, like Trump and Vance's anti-choice Project 2025 agenda to rip away reproductive freedoms, are wildly unpopular.

USA Today: "Americans overwhelmingly oppose the next goal of many anti-abortion activists, to enact a federal law banning abortion nationwide. By 80%-14%, those surveyed opposed that idea, including 65% of Republicans and 83% of independents."

CNN Poll: "About two-thirds (65%) oppose the 2022 Supreme Court decision, Dobbs v. Those who strongly disapprove of the decision continue to outnumber those who strongly approve by a more than 2-to-1 margin.
