A delegation from the SCO Secretariat, headed by SCO Deputy Secretary-General Oleg Kopylov, took part in the 4th World Conference on Creative Economy, which was held in Tashkent on 2-4 October 2024. The event was organised by the Foundation for the Development of Culture and Art of Uzbekistan, with the support of Indonesian partners, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the World Intellectual Property Organisation.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov opened the event, which was attended by state officials and industry experts from multiple foreign countries.
Addressing a ministerial session organised as part of the conference, Oleg Kopylov highlighted the SCO's tremendous potential for developing creative industries. He stated that SCO member states were focusing on the advancement of this segment. In this context, he noted that exchanges of experience and best practices were quite promising. The same applies to standardised and unified approaches to support the creator economy, as well as consolidated efforts for the potential gradual integration of the SCO member states' creative industries into a cohesive hub.
The World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) was founded in 2018 at the initiative of Indonesia. This leading global platform aims to facilitate the development of international cooperation in the field of creative industries. Various countries take turns hosting the biennial WCCE event.
On 12 September 2024, participants in the Meeting of the SCO Member States Ministers Responsible for Foreign Economic and Foreign Trade Activities approved a legal framework for cooperation between SCO member states in the development of the creative economy.
