The University of Brescia presents the CATAI and D-SMART projects at COP29

As part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), countries from around the world gather each year to set common goals and coordinate global efforts to tackle the climate crisis. COP29, held from November 11 to 22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan, saw the participation of the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Brescia.

On November 12, Professor Federica Gasbarro presented the projects "CArbon Transition in the Automotive Industry" (CATAI) and "Digitalization for Sustainable Mobility Accelerating a Right Transition" (D-SMART), for which she is responsible, at the Italian Pavilion during the side event "Universities and Youth in Education, Mitigation, and Adaptation for Climate Initiatives". This event was organized by the Politecnico di Torino for the RUS - Network of Universities for Sustainable Development, and it also took place at the Digital Innovation Pavilion.

The CATAI project, developed in partnership with Ca' Foscari University, addresses the ecological transition within the automotive sector through a joint analysis of the perception of risks and opportunities, as well as the strategies of key players in the automotive supply chain, consumer perceptions, and stakeholder expectations regarding new technologies and mobility services. The project is rooted in the awareness that current mobility models are unsustainable, and in the agenda that many countries and supranational entities are adopting to transition to more sustainable paradigms. The CATAI project is part of the PRIN 2022 program, funded by the European Union - Next Generation EU under Mission 4 "Education and Research", Component C2 - Investment 1.1.

The D-SMART project, developed with the University of Perugia and the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, examines how digital technologies can help meet stakeholders' expectations concerning the data and information necessary to foster creativity and investment in sustainable mobility. Through qualitative and quantitative studies and experiments, the project will identify sustainable mobility scenarios enabled by digitalization from the perspective of key social actors, classifying them in terms of desirability. These scenarios can support decision-making for institutions and companies involved in sectors impacted by the sustainable transition. The D-SMART project is part of the PRIN PNRR 2022 program, funded by the European Union - Next Generation EU under Mission 4 "Education and Research".
