Congressman Ruiz Visits Site of Niland Post Office

Niland, CA - Recently, Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz (CA-25) visited the site of the Niland Post Office that burnt down in April 2022.

On April 19, 2024, Congressman Raul Ruiz sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy along with U.S. Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler to bring attention to the inadequate postal service access for the families and individuals in the Niland community.

"It is essential that the USPS expedites an agreement with local partners to find a permanent location for the Niland Post Office," saidCongressman Raul Ruiz MD (CA - 25). "I will continue to fight to ensure that normal postal service will be restored as quickly as possible for the community of Niland. The Niland community relies on the Postal Service for their daily correspondence, bills, lifesaving medication, and so much more."

"It's unacceptable that the people of Niland have been without a permanent post office for more than two years," said U.S. Senator Butler. "Without access to permanent post offices, rural communities lack the ability to quickly obtain essential medication, government documents, and other critical resources through the mail. That's why I worked with Senator Padilla and Representative Ruiz to urge the U.S. Postal Service to immediately assist Niland's residents."

"More than two years after the Niland Post Office fire, it's wrong that Niland residents and neighboring communities still do not have access to dependable postal service," said U.S. Senator Padilla. "Niland residents shouldn't have to struggle to pick up essential prescriptions, experience barriers to voting by mail, or face lengthy delays in getting their groceries. I will keep working alongside Senator Butler and Representative Ruiz to push the U.S. Postal Service to promptly address this issue."

In the meantime, customers can pick up their mail at the Calipatria Post Office located at 190 West Main Street or visit a mobile unit in Niland that is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Customers can also purchase postal retail from the mobile unit.

To expedite the process, Congressman Raul Ruiz recommends calling 858-674-2670 to contact the USPS District Consumer Affairs Office.
