Bergen Carbon Solutions – Presenting NORCE report on reduction in CO2 emissions from using carbon nanofiber additives

Bergen Carbon Solutions - Presenting NORCE report on reduction in CO2 emissions from using carbon nanofiber additives
(Bergen, 27 January 2022) Bergen Carbon Solutions AS (BCS, OSE:BCS) together with NORCE, will present a report on reduction in CO2 emissions from using carbon nanofiber additives today at 12.00 CET.
In November 2021 NORCE (Norwegian Research Centre AS) was engaged to conduct a preliminary perspective study to estimate the possible reduction in CO2 emissions from carbon nanofiber (CNF) addition. The report focuses on three segments: Cement and concrete, batteries, and plastics. NORCE concludes that CNF can improve material properties on all segments, and thereby reduce CO2 emissions.
On aggregated levels, NORCE estimates a CO2 emission reduction potential of more than 2Gt from less production alone, in the next 10 years.
For batteries, the NORCE's report shows that inclusion of CNF can make anodes both lighter and longer-lasting. It also improves properties such as energy storage, charging and discharging speed and energy efficiency.
Findings from the report also indicates improved strength and stiffness of plastic (PP and PE) - as well as increased thermal and electrical properties. For cement and concrete, adding CNF can make concrete stronger, self-sensing, less open to water, stiffer and more fire-proof.
"We are pleased, but not surprised, with the findings from the report. The potential reduction in CO2 emissions from using carbon nanofiber additives on an aggregated level is really promising. The annual CNF demand from the market is also expected to rise significantly, and with our recent decision to roll out full-scale factory production units, BCS are well positioned for the years to come."
