Work to rebuild the southbound I-27 frontage road scheduled to begin next week

LUBBOCK -Work to rebuild the southbound I-27 frontage road at Yucca Lane bridge is scheduled to begin Monday, October 7. The work will require the frontage road to be closed and traffic detoured around the area.

Crews will begin closing the frontage road starting at 9 a.m. Monday by closing the southbound Exit 7 to Yucca Lane. Traffic needing to access Loop 289 will be directed to use Exit 6B. No southbound I-27 frontage road traffic will be allowed beyond Owen Street. Drivers will continue to have access to Owen.

Southbound I-27 traffic wanting to access westbound Yucca Lane will be directed to the southbound frontage road at Exit 6B then onto Mesa Road to head north to connect with Yucca Lane.

The northbound I-27 frontage road is also scheduled to reopen to traffic next week but Yucca Lane bridge will continue to remain closed.

The work is part of a $24.3 million project to improve mobility along I-27 in Lubbock County by rebuilding the Yucca Lane bridge.
