Firefighters battle overnight fire in West Seattle building

Seattle - At 8:02 p.m. on Nov. 11, the Seattle Fire Department's Fire Alarm Center received 911 calls reporting a fire in a structure in the 5200 block of 35^th Ave. SW. Firefighters from Fire Station 32 were the first to arrive on scene and reported a fire in a Seattle Parks Department building at Camp Long.

The fire was primarily located on the first floor of the two-story structure with a basement. Crews extinguished a large portion of the fire from the exterior and then entered the structure. While conducting a search of the basement, firefighters discovered a hole in the floor on the first story. The incident commander instructed crews to take a defensive fire attack as a safety precaution. All firefighters safely exited the structure and resumed battling the flames from the exterior.

After approximately 40 minutes on scene, a majority of the fire was extinguished. Several crews returned to service, while a few remained on scene to knock down hot spots. All apparatus were demobilized by 11 a.m. on Nov. 12.

The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire is underway. There were no injuries reported.

In total, approximately 60 firefighters responded to the scene including seven engines, three ladder trucks, Rescue Company 1, as well as aid units, medics units, support staff and command staff.
