Abilene Department of Emergency Management Provides Update on Recent Earthquakes

The City of Abilene Department of Emergency Management is actively monitoring a series of earthquakes along the Scurry County and Fisher County lines this week. These seismic events have been felt in the Abilene area and as far away as Dallas and Austin.

While it is too early to determine the exact cause of these earthquakes, it is important to note that earthquakes in this region of Texas are often associated with man-made activities. At this time, there is no indication that this series of earthquakes will significantly impact the Abilene area.

We understand that experiencing an earthquake can be unsettling, and we encourage residents to educate themselves on earthquake preparedness and safety. For more information, please visit Ready.gov at https://www.ready.gov/earthquakes.

Residents who experience an earthquake are encouraged to report their experiences to the U.S. Geological Survey at https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/tellus.

For detailed information on the location, status, and type of earthquakes occurring in Texas, please visit the TexNet Earthquake Catalog at https://www.beg.utexas.edu/texnet-cisr/texnet/earthquake-catalog.

The City of Abilene remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents. We will provide updates as warranted.
