Brown Announces New USW Job Training Center In Piketon

PIKETON, OH - Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) joined steelworkers from USW Local 689 to announce the new Appalachian Clean Energy Industrial Training and Assessment Center in Pike County. The training center will prepare local workers with the necessary skills to secure good-paying, union jobs in new energy industries and advanced manufacturing.

"The future of Piketon is bright. We worked to bring this new training center to Pike County to create opportunity for local workers and future generations to get good-paying, union jobs. These workers will do cutting-edge work in the industries that will power the country's economy for decades to come," said Brown.

The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains is awarding $2 million to USW Local 689 and the Southern Ohio Diversification Initiative for the job training center. The center will train students across energy performance and advanced manufacturing roles and provide regional manufacturers with skilled talent and innovative technical assistance. This investment was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Brown helped to write and pass.

Brown has been an aggressive champion in bringing new energy production to Ohio and Appalachia. He fought to include the clean hydrogen tax credit in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, and secured funds for clean hydrogen hubs in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and successfully pushed the U.S. Department of Energy to provide funding to make the Appalachian Clean Hydrogen Hub possible.
