"Tonight, we've recommended Metro Council update and extend the contract on a key public safety tool, Fusus, for our police department. Fusus makes our police officers' jobs easier when they can more quickly access video from businesses that would like to share it with them. In active investigations, time is valuable. With Fusus, police would have faster access to cameras that already exist. And they can only access that video when an active call for service has come in. Furthermore, Fusus assists in solving or stopping crime in instances where communities might be targeted by hate.
Over the course of the discussion about this technology, we've heard concerns from the community and worked to strengthen the guardrails that ensure responsible and appropriate usage. We know that deep concerns about the recent national election were raised during this discussion, and we believe passage of this measure is a clear benefit to the safety of Nashville that will not interfere with our efforts to protect vulnerable Nashvillians."
