City Holds 9/11 Memorial Service Outside City Hall

Under sunny skies but on a solemn occasion, the city held its 9/11 Memorial Service this morning outside City Hall, with speakers reflecting on the terrorist attacks that occurred 23 years ago.

They remembered how the nation responded, with unity, to meet the challenge and how difficult it has been to keep the country unified in the years since. M

Mayor Yvonne Flowers led the ceremony which featured remarks from Ron Knapp, who was the city's police chief in 2001. Mike O'Connor from the Kiwanis Club of Poughkeepsie also spoke, as did State Senator Rob Rolison, State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson and Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino.

The event took place outside City Hall at the 9/11 Memorial donated by The Kiwanis Club.

The event also featured the Poughkeepsie Chapter of the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, The Mighty Young Techs, an invocation by Christ Episcopal Church Rector Rev. Susan Fortunato, a blessing offered by Minister Stacey Bottoms, TAPS played by Nathan Grant, and former City Detective Lt. Matthew Clark and the Pipes and Drums Corps ending the ceremony with "Amazing Grace."

Mayor Flowers thanks those who took the time to attend today's services and to reflect on 9/11 as a community.
