The Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event, which includes a breakfast at 8:30 a.m. for paid registrants and Chamber members before the mayor's address. Mayor Cavanagh will share community investments, achievements, and plans to prepare Dubuque for the next generation. The State of the City address will provide an opportunity for attendees to be informed about relevant issues in the community.

Cavanagh, a Dubuque native, was elected as Dubuque's 45th mayor in November 2021, and was sworn into office in January 2022. He previously served as the City Council representative for Dubuque's Fourth Ward. Prior to his time on the City Council, he was a member of the City's Housing Commission, has been a member of the Board of Directors of both the Dubuque County Food Policy Council and the Fountain of Youth program, and helped co-found Resources Unite.

As mayor, Cavanagh serves on the boards of Dubuque Initiatives, the Dubuque Racing Association, the Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, Travel Dubuque, and the America's River Board. He is a member of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the president-elect for the Iowa League of Cities, and serves on the league's executive board.

The 2024 State of the City address will air on CityChannel Dubuque in the days and weeks following the breakfast event. It will also be shared on the City's social media channels.
