State System of Higher Education Votes to Freeze Tuition for a Seventh Year

The Board of Governors for Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) today voted unanimously to freeze tuition for in-state undergraduate students for the 2024-25 academic year. This is the unprecedented seventh consecutive year the undergraduate tuition rate will remain the same at East Stroudsburg University.

The repeated freezes save students nearly 25% in tuition costs compared to the price if tuition had risen at the inflation rate for the last six years.

"I believe education should be accessible to everyone, and as the only four-year public university in the region, we know the importance of affordable tuition rates to the ESU community," said Kenneth Long, President of East Stroudsburg University. "I want to thank Governor Shapiro and the state legislators for their continued investment in public higher education and the PASSHE Board of Governors for recognizing the need to maintain access to affordable higher education at State Universities."

The state budget negotiated by Governor Shapiro and the legislature invests an additional $35.1 million, or 6%, in PASSHE universities. The Board of Governors sets the in-state undergraduate tuition rate for PASSHE universities. Each university sets tuition rates for graduate students and out-of-state undergraduates, as well as room, board and mandatory fees for all students.

"With the support of our legislators and the Board of Governors this tuition freeze will not only make earning a college degree more affordable to our students, but it also helps ensure the future workforce our region," Long said.

The 2024-2025 academic year begins on Monday, August 26 at ESU.
