Hirono Statement on Judicial Confirmations

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI), a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement:

"Over the past four years, Senate Democrats have confirmed more than 220 well-qualified judges who reflect the personal and professional diversity of our country. With lifetime appointments, fair and objective judges are essential to dispensing justice, which is why I remain focused on confirming these nominees before the end of this congress. These nominees emerge from hours-long hearings where many have faced unfounded personal and professional attacks from Republicans on the Judiciary Committee. I thank these nominees for their willingness to serve on our circuit courts. The circuit courts are one step removed from the Supreme Court, which makes these nominees especially critical. As we confront Donald Trump's second term in office and his plans to stack the courts with more judges with ideological axes to grind, we have a duty to fortify our judiciary. To do so, I am prepared to stay in session as long as it takes-nights, weekends, or whatever else necessary-to confirm every outstanding nominee."
