Nairobi County Talent and Skills Development Sector Sets Ambitious Targets for 2024/2025 at Strategic Working Group Meeting

Talent, Skills Development, and Care Sector Working Group convened at a Nairobi Hotel in a critical meeting aimed at charting the way forward and shaping the operational framework for the sector.

Led by the County Executive for Talent, Skills Development, and Care Mr. Brain Mulama, who opened the meeting with a call to action to the members encouraging them to work together as a team in order to achieve set targets. He said the sector can do better than it is doing if they work together and urged them to have a positive attitude towards their work despite the challenges they faced.
The County Executive said "There should be regular school visits for quality assurance to ensure that every school is a safe environment for children, calling on everyone present to meet their targets and take their responsibilities seriously. "Let us own up and be good stewards," he said, emphasizing the collective responsibility and dedication required, as their actions have a direct impact on the well-being of the sector objectives and the County as a whole.

Mr. Mulama emphasized on the importance of partnerships, accountability and transparency in the sector as they discussed performance targets, key deliverables, "These negotiations lay the groundwork for the sector's performance contracts in the upcoming fiscal year 2024/2025" he said

The team delved into preliminaries and work plans designed to align on the county's strategic objectives. Team members presented their work plans, outlined new projects, and set ambitious targets for the year, with a shared understanding that their efforts would lay the foundation for growth and success in the sector.

Mr. Festus Macharia guided the team through the performance contracting process and its cycle, making it clear that the sector's success depended on commitment and laying the groundwork for delivering on service excellence.

Mr. Daniel Masetu took the team through monitoring, evaluation and reporting displaying the progress and areas for improvement for the sector in order to achieve their targets.
Chief Officer for Youth Talent and Sports Oscar Igaida reiterating on teamwork in order to move the sector forward He urged the team to be their brother's keepers, and it was clear that there was need to support each other. He raised several key issues, emphasizing on the importance of realistic goal setting.
Chief Officer for Early Childhood Development and Vocational Training Mr. Ahmed Abdi said "While ambition is crucial, targets must be achievable to ensure progress and accountability. There was a collective call to carefully assess the input and resources available and aligning objectives with practical realities.

Director City Education Ruth Owuor said she believed this would not only help meet the sector's goals effectively but also motivate the team by setting a clear and attainable path forward. She said that Action Foundation the sponsors of the meeting were working with the sector in promoting home based learning especially on areas of Children living with disabilities.

The composition of the Technical Working Groups was a key point of discussion, ensuring that each department has the necessary expertise to drive forward key initiatives.

The County Executive said with such engagements the team now had renewed a sense of purpose and determination, with the introduction of the H.E. Governor Johnson Sakaja Manifesto implementation tracking dashboard providing a transparent framework for monitoring the county's progress towards its promises, instilling a deep sense of accountability and a shared vision for the future.

In attendance were Directors Deputy Directors and other sector working group officers.
