Published on August 30, 2024

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced Healthy Housing 101, an annual tour to learn more about how to maintain safe and healthy housing conditions in the city of Syracuse. The Division of Code Enforcement event will take place on Friday, September 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 301 West Colvin Street.

Code Inspectors will lead tours throughout the vacant home, which is owned by the Greater Syracuse Land Bank, to discuss the code enforcement process, how to address violations, and how to keep homes safe and healthy. Topics will include lead-based paint violations, exterior violations such as peeling and chipping paint, overgrowth, trash and debris, and interior violations related to heat, water, smoke detectors and more.

The event is free and open to the community. There will be information tables about programs and resources from the Greater Syracuse Land Bank, Onondaga County, Home HeadQuarters, and the City of Syracuse. City staff members from the Central Permit Office, Zoning Administration, SYRCityline, Fire Prevention, Police, and Neighborhood and Business Development will be available throughout the event to answer any questions or concerns. A rain date is scheduled for Friday, September 20. To register, please visit goto.syr.gov/healthyhousing.
