WASHINGTON-AFT President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement on pressure from David McCormick on media outlets to call the Pennsylvania Senate race in his favor, despite a significant number of outstanding ballots:
"Voters decide elections, not candidates or the news media. With more than 100,000 outstanding ballots still to be counted, decision desks need to take a deep breath and refuse to bow to David McCormick's pressure to prematurely call the Pennsylvania Senate race in his favor.
"The voters have done their job; now, election workers should be given the time to do theirs. The will of the people will decide the winner, not partisan speculation, and we can only know the true outcome if we count and certify every vote safely and accurately."
