Bowser Administration Awards $135,000 to Support Community- Based Gun Violence Prevention Programs Through the ONSE

(WASHINGTON, DC) - Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) are awarding $135,000 to 27 organizations as part of the FY24 Gun Violence Prevention Mini-Grants Program. This program supports community-based programs and activities that focus on gun violence prevention. Organizations receiving the awards include non-profit organizations, small businesses, and faith-based organizations.

Of the 27 awardees, grants will focus on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, building communication skills, increasing behavioral support, self-expression through the creative arts, workforce development, mentorship, and financial literacy. "Every day, ONSE is working with violence interrupters and community partners to improve public safety in the District. These grants will continue those efforts while also creating positive change and engaging youth," said ONSE Interim Director Kwelli Sneed. "We know that year to date, ADWs and homicides are down 38 percent in ONSE priority communities over this time last year. We remain focused on reducing the impacts of gun violence in our community."
