Week of July 8, 2024: Mayor Cherelle L. Parker Weekly Wrap-Up

Last week was a busy one for the Parker Administration, complete with program announcements, grand openings, conferences and more! Check out a few key moments below.

Monday, July 8: Philadelphia Youth Commission Appointment Launch

Monday afternoon was the official launch of the Philadelphia Youth Commission. Mayor Cherelle L. Parker spoke on the importance of giving the City's youth a voice and true representation in government. The youth now have the platform to bring their issues, thoughts and concerns to the table. Now that they have a seat at the table, they will be able to implement change and bring a positive outlook to their respective communities.

Tuesday, July 9: HUD 203K Announcement

Tuesday morning, Mayor Parker arrived in the Point Breeze section of the City to announce the re-birth of the Federal Housing Administration's 203k mortgage insurance program in Philadelphia. This program will give greater flexibility in allowable financing amounts on homes, more time to complete rehabilitation projects, and a greater ability to help homeowners facilitate rehabilitation projects when using a consultant.

Tuesday, July 9: New Philadelphia Youth Basketball Center Ribbon Cutting

On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Parker was off to North Philadelphia to officially open the brand new Alan Horwitz "Sixth Man" Center, powered and operated by Philadelphia Youth Basketball. You have surely seen Mr. Horwitz cheering on our beloved Sixers courtside in his customized "Sixth Man" jersey! The new 100,000-square-foot facility will serve as a safe-haven for youth development and community empowerment for thousands of Philadelphians each year.

Wednesday, July 10: Return to Office Press Conference

On Wednesday, Mayor Parker called a press conference to affirm her stance on this Administration's Return to Office policy with the goal to create a more visible and accessible government that Philadelphians can see, touch and feel. With this decision, Mayor Parker seeks to establish the model for how a municipal workplace can function well, be transparent and accountable to the people of Philadelphia.

Thursday, July 11: Philadelphia Workforce Hub Inaugural Convening

Thursday afternoon, Mayor Parker joined Acting Secretary of Labor, Julie Su, White House Domestic Policy Advisor, Neera Tanden and more for the inaugural convening of the Philadelphia Workforce Hub. Mayor Parker, alongside a diverse set of stakeholders including unions, employers, workers, and philanthropy, discussed new efforts to train Philadelphians for jobs being created by the President's Investing in America agenda.
