Civil Security Department celebrates its 18th anniversary

The Civil Security Department (CSD) celebrated its 18th anniversary recently. A special anniversary ceremony was held under the patronage of Director General (DG) of the CSD Air Vice Marshal Roshan Biyanwila (Retd), at the CSD Headquarters in Colombo, last Friday (Sep 13).

The CSD is an entity under the purview of the Defence Ministry. Civil Security personnel played an important role during the LTTE terrorist conflict. It's history can be traced back to several decades when the then Home Guard Service was restructured as the Civil Security Department through the special gazette No. 1462/20 issued on September 13, 2006.

Fallen CSD war heroes and disable veterans who had sacrificed life and limb during the humanitarian operation were remembered during the anniversary ceremony. Speaking at the occasion, Air Vice Marshal Biyanwila (Retd), appreciated the role of CSD personnel during the terrorist war and the post conflict nation building program.
