Dr. Timothy Matovina of the University of Notre Dame will give the 16th Theotokos Lecture, "Our Lady of Hope: Mary of Galilee, Mary of Guadalupe," on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. in the Raynor Library Beaumier Suites.
Matovina will discuss the importance of Mary the Mother of Jesus for people of faith throughout the Americas. Devotion to Mary is an encounter with the celestial protector and the poor woman of faith who is, in the words of the Salve Regina, "our life, our sweetness, and our hope." Those interested in theology, lived religion, sociology of religion, and history will find this an illuminating conversation.
Light refreshments will be available after the talk. Pre-registration is appreciated.
The Theotokos Lecture is sponsored by the Department of Theology. Questions can be directed to Dr. Mark Johnson at [email protected].
