DDPHE Launches the Thrive in the Mile High Survey

In just 60 seconds, residents can now help make Denver healthier! The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) is inviting residents to weigh in on what they need to achieve a healthy life by participating in the Thrive in the Mile High Survey. This short survey is easy to complete and will help DDPHE better understand the community's health needs and guide future public health initiatives.

The Thrive in the Mile High Survey is being conducted as part of DDPHE's five-year Community Health Assessment. This type of assessment provides a clear picture of the community's health status, quality of life, and health behaviors, while highlighting the socioeconomic and environmental factors that impact health. It identifies strengths and resources and reveals challenges and health needs that still need to be addressed. Through the Community Health Assessment DDPHE will gather insights into the areas where Denver residents may face obstacles to good health.

"Our goal with the Thrive in the Mile High Survey is to gain a clear, comprehensive view of what Denver residents need to live healthy, fulfilling lives," said Karin McGowan, Executive Director of DDPHE. "By listening to the voices of our community, we can identify both strengths and challenges and shape our public health efforts to support a healthier Denver for everyone."

Denver takes a "One Health" approach, emphasizing the interconnectedness of people, animals, and our shared environment. This means that the survey not only addresses the health of Denver's people but also considers the role animals and environmental factors play in influencing well-being.

All Denver residents are eligible to take the survey before Dec. 6. Some Denver households will also receive a postcard in the mail reminding them to take the survey. The survey is also available in Spanish and Vietnamese. DDPHE is working closely with community partners to ensure we hear from as many different voices as possible. Survey responses are anonymous and secure. No names or identifying personal information will be collected, and DDPHE strictly follows data security protocols to ensure respondents' privacy.

The survey is open now and will be open through Friday, Dec. 6. The results of the survey will be included in the Community Health Assessment when it is published in the Spring of 2025.
