National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee Marina Ragus met today with the non-resident Armenian Ambassador to Serbia Ashot Hovakimyan.
Marina Ragus stressed that Serbia attaches great importance to the further development of bilateral relations with Armenia and expressed satisfaction at the recent opening of the Belgrade office of the Armenian Embassy.
The officials exchanged opinions on the complex situation in the world and the security challenges in Serbia and Armenia. They agreed that cooperation and mutual support between the two countries is exceptionally important in that sense and noted the importance of furthering interparliamentary relations through visits at the highest level and intensification of contacts between working bodies and parliamentary friendship groups.
Ambassador Hovakimyan noted the possibility of intensifying cooperation and mutual protection of interests at the multilateral level within international parliamentary organisations, especially the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
Ragus and Hovakimyan also discussed Serbia and Armenia's European integration prospects and noted that there is room to develop cooperation of mutual interest in that area.
