Reducing the Learning Curve in NPI

Transferring a new product or existing production to a contract manufacturer always involves a learning curve. At a minimum, teams need to get to know each other, project issues need to be identified and addressed, and the production process needs to be validated in conformance to OEM requirements. There are unanticipated costs on both sides during this period because of learning curve surprises. When a contract manufacturer has a repeatable process for navigating this "getting to know each other" timeframe, the surprise costs tend to be lower. SigmaTron International, a multinational electronics manufacturer has structured an NPI process that addresses them. This whitepaper looks at some of the challenges present in the new product introduction (NPI) process and best practices in mitigating them.
