Thursday Storm Update

September 12, 2024
(Jackson, Miss.) - Due to the impact of Tropical Depression Francine on the area, City of Jackson offices will remain closed today, Thursday, September 12. Thank you for your understanding as essential employees continue to work to mitigate storm damage. All City of Jackson employees are expected to return to the office for regular hours Friday.
Shelter Information
The temporary shelter at the Jackson Police Training Academy will close at noon today. Since it opened on Wednesday, six people have utilized the shelter.
Garbage Pickup
Richard's Disposal Inc. has suspended garbage pickup Thursday out of concern for the safety of its employees. Richard's will resume service tomorrow, Friday, September 13.
Tree/Limb Debris
Please call 601-960-1870 if you see tree debris blocking roadways. We are currently in the process of removing trees/limbs from the following roads:
  • 2250 Boling Street
  • 1931 Boling Street
  • Countyline Road/Hwy 49 E. Countyline Rd ( 2 trees)
  • 1922 First Avenue ( power line ) private
  • 3500 Lee Street
  • Jefferson Street @ Morningside
  • 4715 Methodist Home Rd
For residents with damage to their homes, please call the Hinds County Emergency Operations Center at 601-968-6771. They will also provide a tarp if needed. The city is not responsible for debris on private property.
Traffic Signals
We are keeping a tally of damaged traffic signals and working to repair them.
  • Damaged Southbound 5-section at Ridgewood Rd @ Woodfield Dr. Green arrow section operational.
  • Northbound 3- section at Hwy 80 @ Gallatin Street. Only red LED functions. Yellow and Green section missing.
Contractor will repair!

  • Mill at Monument (Closed)
  • Capital at Monument (Closed)
Power Outages
There are just over 2,000 power outages in Hinds County as of 10:30 a.m., according to PowerOutage.us. Call Entergy at 1-800-9OUTAGE to report an outage or determine status.
