Open house events will address storm risk study

Oct. 9, 2024 - The city and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will hold a series of open house events at which Hampton residents can offer input and learn about a coastal storm risk study.

The Peninsula Coastal Storm Risk Management Feasibility Studywill identify future solutions to reduce damage caused by coastal storms throughout the Virginia Peninsula. Residents who attend the open house events will be able to help set the focus and framework of the study and provide feedback on its potential impacts.

The USACE will be the host for an open house event on Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 5-7 p.m. at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.

In addition to the meeting at the convention center, the city will host four open house events where residents can learn about the study as it relates to specific areas in Hampton. The open house opportunities will be:

* Newmarket Creek on Monday, Oct. 21, from 5-7 p.m. at Aberdeen Elementary School, 1424 Abereen Road;

* Coastal on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 5-7 p.m. at the Fox Hill Neighborhood Center, 65 Hall Road;

* Hampton Roads Harbor on Monday, Oct. 28, from 5-7 p.m. at the Hampton Senior Center, 3501 Kecoughtan Road;

* Hampton River on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 5-7 p.m. at the Ruppert Sargent Building, 1 Franklin St.

The meetings are open to residents, business owners and the general public. No registration is required.
