"I was deeply saddened to learn that my friend and colleague, Sheila Jackson-Lee, has transitioned from labor to reward.

"A courageous fighter for justice, fairness, and the well-being of humankind has fallen. She was a steadfast champion for Houstonians in the halls of Congress and a powerful voice for the underserved, underrepresented, and disaffected. She was relentless in her pursuit of social justice and creating public policy that built on the lessons of the past in order to create a better future. Her vision and voice will be greatly missed.

"I am blessed to have been her friend and colleague for almost 30 years and for her to have accepted my invitations to our area where she wowed audiences with her eloquent and profound oratorical skills. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy of service to humanity will endure for generations to come.
