Attorney General Mayes Announces Sentencing of Fentanyl and Methamphetamine Dealer

PHOENIX - Attorney General Kris Mayes today announced that Eduardo Cruz was sentenced in Maricopa County Superior Court to 5 years in prison, followed by 3 years on probation supervision for dealing fentanyl pills and methamphetamine.

"My office is committed to protecting Arizona communities from the dangers of drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamine," said Attorney General Mayes "We will keep working to get these drugs off our streets and hold those who distribute them accountable under the law."

In February and March of this year, Cruz sold methamphetamine and fentanyl pills in the Phoenix area. On February 14, 2024, he sold approximately 10,000 fentanyl pills, weighing 2.4 pounds. A few weeks later, on March 27, 2024, he had 7.05 pounds of methamphetamine for sale. Investigators with the Arizona Department of Public Safety arrested Cruz, he was charged, and has now pled guilty to Conspiracy to Sell a Narcotic Drug, a class 2 felony; Attempt to Possess Dangerous Drug for Sale, class 3 felony; and Illegally Conducting an Enterprise, a class 3 felony.

On September 30, 2024, Cruz was ordered to serve 5 years prison concurrent time for Attempt to Possess a Dangerous Drug for Sale and Illegally Conducting an Enterprise followed by a 3 year probation tail for Conspiracy to Sell a Narcotic Drug. He was ordered to pay $4,500 to the State Anti-Racketeering Revolving Fund, $10,000 in investigation costs to the Department of Public Safety, and to forfeit to the guns involved in this case.

Assistant Attorney General Sabrina Lochner prosecuted the case.
