Journalism Professor receives Alumni Award from Antioch College

Karl Grossman, a professor in the American Studies/Media & Communications Department recently received the Horace Mann Award from the Antioch College Alumni Association for his decades of service in investigative journalism.

The Horace Mann award recognizes Antioch alumni that have contributed to society through personal or professional activities that have profoundly affected the present or future human condition. Howard Mann is known as the "Father of American Education," and was the first president at the College.

Grossman, a student at Antioch in the '60s, has taught at SUNY Old Westbury for more than 40 years, and has written numerous articles and books and narrated award-winning documentaries during his long career of investigative journalism. Grossman's more recent investigative focus is on environmental issues.

He recently spoke at the Press Club of Long Island 50th anniversary awards dinner, of which he was the founder and first president. He also received an award in their environmental video category.
