Monmouth Named One of Billboard’s 2024 Top Music Business Schools

Monmouth University was again named one of Billboard magazine's Top Music Business Schools for 2024.

Schools are selected for the list based on industry recommendations, alumni information provided by honorees from multiple power lists, information requested from each school, and nearly a decade of reporting on these programs.

"This honor reaffirms Monmouth University's commitment to the arts and to fostering the next generation of music industry leaders. Our Music Industry program not only focuses on the technical aspects of music but also nurtures creativity and entrepreneurship, preparing students for success in a dynamic field," said Joe Rapolla, specialist professor and chair of the Music and Theatre Arts department.

Billboard recognized Monmouth, home of the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music, for its distinctive integration of business and music coursework. The magazine highlights Monmouth's collaboration between the Leon Hess Business School and its music and music business programs, noting the University's "interdisciplinary model prepares students for a range of opportunities."

The feature also emphasizes Monmouth status as one of only four collegiate chapter affiliates of Women in Music, while also highlighting students' hands-on opportunities in curating exhibits in merchandising and in behind-the-scenes roles at the Archives and through the student-run record label Blue Hawk Records, gaining real-world experience in roles as A&R representatives, managers, producers, and artists.

Additionally, Billboard mentions Monmouth's partnerships with leading music organizations, tech companies, agencies, and state-of-the-art recording complex in nearby Asbury Park. The article also notes that Monmouth recently hosted the American Music Honors Awards, produced by the Archives, celebrating music icons Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp, Mavis Staples, and Dion with special appearances by Bruce Springsteen and Darlene Love.
