Discover interesting tech insights from the August Tech job Report

Every month, our research team shares insights into the state of tech employment across the country with our Tech Jobs Report. The report provides an overview of trends, including the top locations, roles, and experience levels based on new and active job postings.

From this report, you can find valuable insights to help you start your tech career or to further your career. This will show the most-desired tech employees, certifications that would make sense to get you started in tech, and even ways in which to push your tech career further toward expertise.

The August report which reflects data through July of 2024, shows a slowdown in hiring across the sector. Despite the decline, which reflects national labor market trends, the report also reveals that skills-based hiring continues to be top of mind for employers. The most in-demand tech roles included software developers / engineers, IT project managers, data analysts, data scientists, and tech support specialists. Additionally, the most active roles in tech that do not require a 4-year degree include Network Support Specialists, IT Support Specialists, Network and Systems Administrators, Database Administrators, and Web and UI/UX Designers. Overall, there were nearly 176,324 new employer job postings and 471,000 active tech job postings in July.

Tech hiring by years of experience

Whether you're just starting out in your tech career or you're an experienced professional, July job postings revealed opportunities at every level. This is helpful to give insights into which tech careers you could begin in or even blossom your existing career into. Interestingly, those with 0-3 years of experience make up over 20% of the job postings.

Active tech job postings not requiring a 4-year degree

If you're just getting started in tech or believe you would need a degree to get a career started, you'll be thrilled to learn that isn't actually the case. In July, 46% of active tech job postings didn't specify a four-year degree requirement. To boost your earning potential without a degree, explore deepening your skillset by taking the next step in your career pathway.
