Bring us your old tires this week

Kentucky residents, farmers and businesses who generate less than five percent of their revenue from tire sales can drop off unwanted tires for free Oct. 31 - Nov. 2 at the city's old landfill pad at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike. Please enter the site through the front gates. You do not need to be a Fayette County resident to participate.

"We are pleased to be able to offer this free opportunity through Kentucky's Waste Tire Collection Program," said John Howard, acting director of Lexington's Division of Waste Management. "The tires we collect will be recycled into useful products such as recycled asphalt pavement, speed bumps and tire-derived fuel."

This program is open to residents and most businesses. The following businesses cannot participate in the event: tire retailers, scrap metal dealers, salvage yards or recycling businesses. Anyone with a load of 100 or more tires is required to bring assistance for unloading. Scavenging is not allowed.

Collection hours:

  • Thursday, Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. - noon

Accepted tires: tires on or off rim including farm equipment, bicycle, motorcycle, go-cart, ATV, tractor, truck and passenger tires.

Not accepted at collection event: Large off-the-road tires, tracks, sheet rubber, solid, filled tires or tires with a bead greater than 1 ¾ inch.

The Waste Tire Collection Program is sponsored by Kentucky's Energy and Environment Cabinet and Lexington's Division of Waste Management.

All year, Lexington residents who receive City waste collection can dispose of up to four off-the-rim automobile tires per week at no charge through curbside collection.
