On December 5, 2024, at approximately 4:28 p.m., the New York State Police, while assisting the Marshals Task Force and Monroe County Sheriff's Office, attempted to take a suspect, Dherise M. Dates, age 18, of Rochester, NY, into custody. The suspect was entering a stolen vehicle, a 2018 Lincoln MKC, in the parking lot of the Greece Ridge Mall in the town of Greece.
Law enforcement approached him as he entered the vehicle. Dates attempted to escape from his parking spot, striking a State Police Investigator and a Monroe County Deputy. The Investigator was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for minor injuries, and the Deputy was taken to Rochester General Hospital for minor injuries.
While Dates was being pursued, he struck another vehicle. There were no injuries to the operator of that vehicle. After a short foot pursuit, Dates was taken into custody. This is an ongoing investigation.
