Spears Business faculty, staff honored at 2024 University Awards Convocation

Multiple Spears School of Business employees received accolades at the University Awards Convocation ceremony Dec. 12 in the Student Union Ballroom.

The annual ceremony honors faculty, staff and administrators who have made outstanding contributions to Oklahoma State University's success.

The following Spears Business employees were honored:

  • Dr. Julie Weathers, director of strategic initiatives and assessment, was the administrative recipient of the University Service Award. This award goes to a faculty member, a staff member and an administrator who have given meritorious service to the university. Weathers' accomplishments include preparing Spears Business for AACSB re-accreditation and leading the business school's United Way of Payne County fundraising efforts to support 24 agencies that benefit the community.
  • Dr. James Pappas, Department of Management head and associate professor, was the faculty recipient of the Leave the Ladder Down Award. This award goes to a faculty member, a staff member and an administrator who have successfully mentored and encouraged others to reach their fullest potential.
  • Dr. Justin Lawrence, William S. Spears Chair and associate professor in the School of Marketing and International Business, received the Distinguished Early Career Faculty Award, which includes a $2,000 stipend. This award recognizes faculty who were awarded tenure within the past three years and demonstrate strong potential for continued contributions to the university and to their profession in the areas of instruction, research, creative activity and/or extension/outreach.
  • Dr. Alexis Washington, William S. Spears Chair and associate professor in the Department of Management, was the faculty recipient of the Career Champion Award, which carries a one-time $500 stipend. This award recognizes a faculty member and a staff member who have championed career development and readiness by encouraging, fostering and promoting opportunities for students.
  • Dr. Todd Arnold, Gary L. Trennepohl Chair and professor in the School of Marketing and International Business, received the Regents Distinguished Research Award, which includes a $2,000 permanent stipend. This award recognizes faculty who have shown unusually significant achievement in their field of research.
  • Dr. Eric Sisneros, Department of Finance assistant head and assistant professor of professional practice, received the Merrick Foundation Teaching Award, which carries a $1,500 stipend. This award recognizes a faculty member who provides students with a better understanding of the American economic system.
  • Chrissi Lyles, academic counselor in the Chesapeake Energy Business Student Success Center, received the Advising Excellence Award.

The following Spears Business faculty were recognized for their recent appointments to endowed chair and professorship positions:

  • Dr. Corey Baham, William S. Spears Chair in Business Administration
  • Dr. Xiang Fang, Jay Helm Professorship in Business at OSU-Tulsa
  • Dr. J.B. Kim, Carson Priority Excellence Chair in Business Administration
  • Dr. Bradley Lawson, Lanny G. Chasteen Chair in Accounting
  • Griffin Pivateau, J.D., Endowed Professorship in Applied Business Ethics
  • Dr. Wenyi Shen, Glenn M. Stinchcomb Family Professorship
  • Dr. Lisa Slevitch, Charles W. Lanphere Professorship in Hotel and Restaurant Administration
  • Dr. Angela Spencer, Wilton T. Anderson Chair in Accounting
