Penn State DuBois basketball teams open conference play

DuBOIS, Pa. - The men's and women's basketball teams at Penn State DuBois completed a full week of games, including the start of their schedules in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). Both teams were looking to create momentum leading into the Thanksgiving holiday break.

Lady Lions split the week, securing a thrilling win
The Penn State DuBois Women's Basketball team showcased their resilience with a hard-fought 63-61 victory over Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Saturday after dropping a midweek contest to Jamestown Community College.

In Wednesday's matchup against Jamestown, the Lady Lions fell 64-53 despite a double-double effort from forward Natalie Bowser, who recorded 10 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Frances Milliron led the scoring with 13 points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Despite their efforts, the Lady Lions were outpaced by Jamestown in points off turnovers, which proved to be the deciding factor.

Rebounding from the loss, DuBois secured their first win of the season in dramatic fashion against Wilkes-Barre. Guard Eden Wonderling put up 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, while Bowser posted another impressive performance with 14 points and 12 rebounds. A strong fourth quarter gave the Lady Lions the edge they needed, as Rebecca Martin hit a crucial three-pointer late in the game.

Men's Basketball Faces Tough Competition
The Penn State DuBois Men's Basketball team had a challenging week, falling to Edinboro University in a non-conference game, 120-63. Senior forward Ashton Fortson led DuBois with 19 points, shooting an efficient 72% from the field. Guard Kaleb Pryor contributed 12 points and showcased his aggressiveness by going 6-for-7 from the free-throw line. Despite strong individual performances, the Lions struggled to keep up with Edinboro's high-octane offense.

Returning to their home court on Saturday, the Nittany Lions were unable to hold off Penn State Wilkes-Barre, falling 109-98. The Lions opened the game with intensity, securing a narrow 40-38 lead at halftime. However, Wilkes-Barre came alive in the second half, outscoring DuBois 71-58, thanks to a dominant offensive display.

Jeremiah Miller led the charge for Wilkes-Barre with an impressive 28 points, going 7-for-10 from the field and 13-for-15 from the free-throw line. Jedidiah Ashton added a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Jo-Nathan Kelly contributed 16 points on a perfect 7-for-7 shooting performance. For Penn State DuBois, Kaleb Pryor was a standout, scoring a game-high 33 points, including seven three-pointers. Beau Verdill chipped in 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Niare Poplar added 15 points and six rebounds.

Both teams will play one more game prior to Thanksgiving. The Lady Lions will travel to face Pitt-Bradford on Monday, Nov. 25, with tip off scheduled for 4 p.m. The Nittany Lions will also hit the road this week, traveling to face another higher-level opponent, when they face Clarion University on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 5:30 p.m.
