One Seattle Homelessness Action Plan Posts Q3 2024 Data Updates

Seattle - Today, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell released updated data sets for the third quarter of 2024 for the City's One Seattle Homelessness Action Plan and public-facing dashboard. The Q3 update shows a 33% decrease in the number of tents citywide, a 31% decrease in RVs at active encampments, and a 43% increase in the number of accepted referrals to shelter compared to the Q2 data updates.

The Unified Care Team (UCT) completed approximately 4,786 site cleanings in the third quarter, an 11% increase from Q2, and removed nearly 703,335 pounds of debris from public spaces.

UCT also focuses on removing public health and safety hazards at encampments, such as propane tanks, and data from the Seattle Fire Department shows that the number of fires at encampments decreased by 37% compared to same quarter of 2023.

SNAPSHOT TENT/RV COUNT:

  • September verified tent count: 193 (decrease from 288 tents in Q2 2022)
  • September verified count of RVs at active encampment sites: 115 (decrease from 166 in Q2 2024)

OUTREACH DATA:

  • 586 referrals to shelter accepted during Q3 (increase from 409 in Q2 2024 and the highest number of accepted referrals this year)

PUBLIC SAFETY DATA:

  • Total emergency medical response calls in Q3: 2,634 (decrease from 2,748 in Q2 2024 and 23% decrease from same period in 2023)

  • Total Q3 shots fired or shooting incidents connected to homelessness: 15 (increase from 8 in Q2 2024, 31% decrease from same time period in 2023)

The Unified Care Team continues to make progress in its work to ensure Seattle streets, sidewalks, and public spaces remain clean and accessible to all, a coordinated effort that includes more than a dozen City departments and partners. The One Seattle Homelessness Action Plan, first announced in May 2022, provides a framework for continued action centered on both urgency and compassion.
