FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Placer County - Caltrans is advising motorists of a broadband installation project continuing on State Route 28 (SR-28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.

The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed internet into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Utility work and striping operations with one-way traffic control is scheduled along SR-28 at the following locations and times:

  • Monday, November 4 from 7 a.m. until Thursday, November 7 at midnight between the Nevada state line and Speedboat Avenue in Brockway. No work is scheduled between midnight and 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • Monday, November 4 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. between Lardin Way and Center Street.
  • Monday, November 4 through Thursday, November 7 from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. between Sierra Terrace Road and Star Harbor in Tahoe City.
  • Tuesday, November 5 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. between Ridgewood Road and Onyx Street in Carnelian Bay.
  • Wednesday, November 6 from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Lardin Way
  • Thursday, November 7 from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. between Ridgewood Road and Center Street

Motorists could encounter total delays of up to one hour between Tahoe City and Kings Beach on SR-28 due to the various construction activities. Please allow for extra time to reach your destination, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times. All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment or material availability, or other unexpected events.

Caltrans issues construction and road condition updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic information, click on Caltrans' QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
