7News pushes for transparency with DC 911 leaders, skips controlled briefing

WASHINGTON (7News) - Nine major news organizations in Washington D.C., including 7News, decided to boycott a briefing held by the director of D.C.'s Office of Unified Communications (OUC)and other government officials Friday morning.

At issue: the District's control of information, restricting questions that can be asked, and unwillingness to be on the record.

Average wait times on hold for a 911 operator in Toronto went down in the first half of this year after climbing to the longest average wait in at least five years in 2023.

Last year the average wait for an emergency call to be answered was 58 seconds.
