IBM's new Digital Policy Agenda for Europe outlines key policy recommendations for the European Union's new institutional mandate. The six-pillar plan calls on EU leaders to enact digital policies that will:
"We know that innovation will continue to accelerate over the next 5 years," said Thomas Reynaert, Vice President, Government & Regulatory Affairs, EMEA, IBM. "In parallel, the EU has a great opportunity in this mandate to demonstrate global leadership in technology by balancing robust policy with protecting a business-friendly environment."
The recommendations encourage European policymakers to promote open innovation and competitiveness, including by implementing existing AI policy, getting Europe quantum-ready, restoring free trade and closing the skills gap.
"With a robust AI regulation in place, the focus should be on ensuring it works in practice," said Jean-Marc Leclerc, Director, EU Affairs, IBM. "Promoting and protecting open, transparent AI ecosystems will be crucial to build the trust we need going forward."
