League of Women Voters of Nevada Announces Re-Launch

LAS VEGAS - Today, the League of Women Voters of Nevada (LWVNV) announced the official re-launch of the state League with a distinct focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Nevada residents of all gender identities are invited to join the nonpartisan voter empowerment movement with LWVNV at lwvnevada.org.

"Our vision for this new era of LWV of Nevada is to build a people-powered organization that drives voter engagement in the democratic process," said Barbara Wells, president of the League of Women Voters of Nevada. "It is the League's mission to empower voters and defend democracy, and we have a huge opportunity to build a movement that raises the voice of every Nevada voter. We invite you to join us in mobilizing Nevadans to exercise their power at the polls with confidence."

The League of Women Voters of Nevada was reinstated by the LWV of the United States (LWVUS) Board of Directors last fall, following a period of assessment and renewal. In 2020, the LWVUS Board withdrew recognition of LWVNV after attempting to resolve multiple policy violations. Following the withdrawal of recognition, LWVUS continued working closely with the dedicated League members in Nevada and investing to rebuild the state League. LWVNV relaunches now with new leadership and an organizational focus on strong partnerships and cultural transformation.

"The LWVUS Board has full confidence in the dedicated and passionate leadership of the Nevada state League," said Dianna Wynn, Board president of the League of Women Voters of the United States. "We are grateful to the local Nevada League members who continued serving voters through this transition, as well as the many in-state partners who supported the new state League leadership. Nevadans deserve a strong League of Women Voters to ensure their right to vote and provide them with trustworthy, nonpartisan election information."

Nevada League members recognize that the League's unique position as a democracy defender in Nevada is strengthened by coalition partnerships. The League is grateful for the invaluable cooperation and support of ACLU Nevada, the Clark County Election Department, LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada (The Center), Planned Parenthood Votes Nevada, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada (PLAN), Rise Nevada, Nevada Moms Demand Action, Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom, and Silver State Voices.

LWVNV's plans to empower Nevada voters for the 2024 elections include upcoming voter registration events, providing election information at VOTE411.org/lwvnv, and building a base of grassroots volunteers to mobilize Nevada communities to the polls.

All Nevadans are welcome to volunteer with the League and consider joining as a member! Check out the opportunities at lwvnevada.org and join the movement to empower voters and defend democracy in Nevada.
