Construction producer price indices, 1st quarter 2024
We are publishing a new indicator on construction prices
In 2024, SURS started collecting quarterly data on prices of services in the construction sector. Price developments are monitored by the Standard Classification of Activity, type of construction and type of construction activity. In the first quarter of 2024, prices increased by 2.4%.
New indicator on quarterly construction producer price indices
SURS calculates and publishes indices for all sections of activities except construction in the services producer price index in line with the European Regulation. The new European Regulation for business statistics envisages the development of a separate producer price index for new residential buildings. Construction is a very important economic sector and the most important users, both the government and other state institutions as well as the economy, need comprehensive data on price developments in construction activities. SURS therefore wanted to cover the whole construction sector and developed price indices for all construction activities and for all types of constructions.
From 2024 on, SURS also monitors the quarterly development of service prices (work performed) in all construction activities by the Standard Classification of Activity (NACE Rev. 2), type of construction and type of construction activity.
Prices up by 2.4% in the first quarter
In the first quarter of 2024, prices for services in the construction industry increased on average by 2.4%. The highest increase was observed in specialised construction activities (3.4%) and the lowest in construction of buildings (0.7%). Prices of services in civil engineering increased by 2.6%.
Among specialised construction activities, the prices of demolition and site preparation went up the most (by 4.0%) and of building completion and finishing the least (by 2.4%).
Tables with the latest data are available in
the SiStat Database. In addition to data by the Standard Classification of Activity (NACE Rev. 2), they also contain data by the Classification of Types of Constructions (CC-SI) and by type of construction activity.
