Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Columbia10/02/2024

Columbia, SC - October 2, 2024 - Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its new Columbia bookstore on Wednesday, October 9^th. The new Barnes & Noble is located in Columbiana Centre (100 Columbiana Circle, Columbia, SC 29212), in the space formerly occupied by Edge, next to Miniso, across from Foot Locker, and near JC Penney and Belk.

The new Barnes & Noble will officially open to the public at 11AM ET on Wednesday the 9^th. The bookstore showcases the highly lauded design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, featuring all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation's premier bookseller.

"We are very excited to return to this area, just across the street from our old store which was redeveloped in 2013 after 18 years of bookselling," said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. "Queues of people at bookstore doors for midnight releases and new store openings is testament to the renaissance in books and reading. Our store in the Shoppes at Woodhill opened in the spring to acclaim and we now open on the other side of town this fall. It is a great time for bookstores and nowhere more so than in Columbia."

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2023, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024.

The Columbiana Centre location is one of nine new Barnes & Noble bookstores set to open in October, alongside new locations in TX, VA, MO, IL, FL, NY and Washington D.C. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.
