Greenville Uses Tech as a Tool for Growth

"Technology has become more deeply ingrained in government services," Mayor Knox White said. "People really like the kind of technology that makes it easier to live and participate in the city's growth and development. If you don't have that, you have to catch up."

From public safety, parking and infrastructure, codes enforcement and operational efficiency, White offered examples of how Greenville is using tech to further progress. One element the mayor highlighted was the City's Traffic Management System. From the new Public Safety Complex on Halton Road, the City will use cameras and other technology to monitor traffic conditions and alleviate congestion.

"It's a state-of-the-art system that we believe will help residents, visitors and businesses navigate the city," White said.

Access to government services is another area where Greenville has put tech to work. From streaming City Council meetings to gathering data through surveys in local neighborhoods, the City seeks to inform the public and gather feedback on critical issues.

"I think it's vital that your citizenry and constituents have the ability to engage," City Councilor John DeWorken said. "There is a drive, a need for that, which you have to make sure you fill."

"We are always looking for ways to make our work more accessible to the public and the jobs of our staff easier, to better fulfill the services of the city," City Manager Shannon Lavrin said.

Joining the city officials were County Council Vice Chairman Liz Seman, Assistant County Administrator Nicole Wood and Greenville County Economic Development Director Max Stewart.
