ENAIRE managed over 214,000 flights in May, 9.3% more than in 2023, a record year

ENAIRE, Spain's air navigation service provider, managed over 214,000 flights (214,465) in May, 9.3% more than in the same month in 2023, a record year.

International flights in May (125,944) rose by 11.2%, overflights (47,452), which do not land at or depart from a Spanish airport, by 6.9%, and domestic flights (41,069) by 6.4%.

This growth in air traffic in Spain in May exceeded the European average, which was 6.5%, by 2.8 percentage points.

All ENAIRE control centres registered an increase in the number of flights managed: Palma recorded 40,460 flights (+11.3%); Barcelona, 106,939 (+10.1%); Canary Islands, 31,360 (+9.3%); Madrid, 111,566 (+8.0%); and Seville, 46,695 (+7.1%).

Cumulative data for 2024

In the first five months of the year, ENAIRE managed over 886,000 flights (886,907), 9.2% more than in the same period in 2023. International flights from January to May (496,143) increased by 11.2%, overflights (205,770) by 7.3% and domestic flights (184,994) by 6.1%.

This growth in air traffic in Spain so far this year exceeded the European average, which was 6.4%, by 2.8 percentage points.

The cumulative data for the year also show that all ENAIRE control centres registered an increase in the number of flights managed: Seville, 397,136 flights managed, 10.2% more than in 2023; Seville, 206,694, 10.0% more; Canary Islands, 169,741, 9.2% more; Madrid, 503,301, 8.7% more; and Palma, 113,119, 5.7% more.

Within the framework of the organization's successive strategic plans, the 2020 Flight Plan and the 2025 Flight Plan, safety, quality of service, efficiency and sustainability are ENAIRE's priorities in flight management.

Furthermore, ENAIRE has been the European leader in the effectiveness of its Safety Management Systrem since 2019, achieving and maintaining the maximum possible result (100%) since 2020 for the fourth consecutive year.

As a company of the Ministry of Sustainable Transport and Mobility, it provides en route control services for all flights and overflights from five control centres in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Gran Canaria and Palma, as well as approach services to every airport in the country.

ENAIRE has received the highest score in Europe on the aviation safety key performance indicator for four years in a row. It has also been awarded the EFQM 500 Seal for its safe, efficient, innovative and sustainable management of air navigation services.
