Reopening of the Malaysian market to Argentina’s live horse exports

Malaysia has informed Argentina, through the Argentine Embassy, that our country has been authorized to resume live horse exports to the Asian country. This achievement is the result of the coordinated work of the Foreign Ministry, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (SAGyP) and the Argentine Animal Health and Agri-food Quality Service (SENASA).

Argentina's exports were suspended in November 2023, due to the detection of Western Equine Encephalitis. Reopening the market took 8 months and required the exchange of sanitary information until a risk assessment was carried out and a new International Health Certificate (IHC) was issued.

Argentina exports non-breeding horses to Malaysia. In 2022, the Asian country was the 7th top destination for Argentina's exports of non-breeding horses, with 122 specimens worth around USD 600,000. In 2023, Argentina exported 56 specimens for approximately USD 200,000.

Under this authorization, Argentina is allowed to resume horse exports to Malaysia, in compliance with the requirements imposed by Malaysian health authorities.
