Juvenile Statistics Received Into Security Unit, 2023


Juveniles received into the security unit were involved 537 thousand 583 incidents
The number of incidents involving juveniles received into security units was 537 thousand 583 in 2023 with an decrease of 10.7% compared to 2022. In these incidents, 242 thousand 875 juveniles as victims, 178 thousand 834 pushed into crime (for allegedly committing an act defined as a crime in the law), 84 thousand 751 as witnesses, 15 thousand 716 as lost (a lost person application was made about him and later found), 11 thousand 179 with the allegation of committing a misdemeanor and 4 thousand 228 of them received into the security units for other reasons other than these reasons.

39.8% of the juveniles pushed into crime were involved in assault
39.8% of the juveniles who received into the security unit due to pushed into crime were charged with assault, 20.8% with theft, 7.7% with opposition to the passport law, 4.9% with use, sale, and purchase of drugs, and 4.0% with threat.

45.2% of the juveniles received to the security units were victimized juveniles
Of the total 242 thousand 875 juveniles received as victims in the security unit; 89.7% were victims of crime and 10.2% were victims of followed incident. The 61.3% of 217 thousand 915 juvenile victims of crime were victims of assault, 11.8% of them were victims of sexual offences, 8.6% of them were victims of offences against family order, 4.4% of them were threats and 13.9% were victims for other reasons other than these reasons.

This study represents each case of a juvenile received into the security unit one or more times whose security records were kept or not kept and whose files were sent or not sent to the Office of the Prosecutor, whether Turkish citizen or not. In the data used, there is a separate record for each case that belongs to a person.
