City Council Approves Balanced Budget

City Council passed its 2025 budget, which includes no increase in property taxes and a balanced budget with general fund expenses of $226 million. Other important items in the budget include:

  • $2 million annual contribution to Rockford Promise from casino revenue. This supports the Rockford Promise NIU Scholarship and the Rockford Promise Rockford University Scholarship, which provide eligible students the opportunity to earn degrees tuition-free.
  • Addresses pressing capital equipment replacement needs.
  • Continues investment in technology to improve services without adding additional staff.
  • Continues and increases our investment in public safety.

"Under my administration, this is the eighth consecutive year we've passed a balanced budget without increasing property taxes for our residents," says Mayor McNamara. "With inflation hitting hard this year, we felt it was especially important to avoid raising property taxes. I'm proud that we continue to manage our resources responsibly while providing exceptional services to our community."
