Traffic Stop in Plattsburgh leads to drug arrest

On August 14, 2024, State Police members arrested Ernest J. Elliott, age 61, of Plattsburgh, NY for criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th, criminal possession of narcotic drug 4th, criminal use of drug paraphernalia 2nd, driving while intoxicated, previous convictions, aggravated unlicensed operator 1st, and issued vehicle and traffic tickets.

On August 14, 2024, at approximately 9:58 p.m., Troopers observed a black 2018 Mitsubishi traveling north on State Route 9 in the town of Plattsburgh, violating vehicle and traffic sections. Troopers initiated a traffic stop and interviewed the driver, who was identified as Elliott. During the interview with Elliot, he was showing signs of impairment, and the Troopers asked him to exit the vehicle. While Elliot was exiting the vehicle, the Troopers observed narcotics in plain view. Troopers attempted to administer SFSTs, but Elliot refused.

Elliot was arrested and transported to SP Plattsburgh for processing. He was arraigned in the Town of Plattsburgh Court, where he was remanded to Clinton County Jail due to prior felony convictions.
