Longtime Brenau Chief of Staff Jody Wall was recognized by the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce in June with a Silver Shovel Award.

The Silver Shovel Awards are presented annually to Chamber volunteers "who have gone above and beyond, who have worked hard for our Chamber, for our community, for business, for Gainesville-Hall County," according to the GHCC.

"Jody Wall is always developing relationships with other schools and providing Brenau with a presence in our community," GHCC President and CEO Kit Dunlap said. Dunlap is also a graduate of The Women's College and a former Brenau trustee. "Thank you, Jody, for all you do for the students at Brenau University and our Gainesville/Hall County community."

Wall is a familiar face at Brenau, starting her work as assistant to President John S. Burd in 2001. She currently serves as chief of staff and executive assistant to the president, having done so since 2010. Wall has served four presidents and is a key member of the executive team.

"Jody Wall is a tremendous asset to Brenau and Gainesville-Hall County communities. She understands the true meaning of service to others," President David L. Barnett said. "Her approach exemplifies how she puts the interests of others first as she strives to lead the university's efforts on multiple community initiatives."

Wall is active in the Gainesville-Hall County community, including as a member of the GHCC Board of Directors for the 2024-25 year, and is a member of the chamber's economic development committee. She completed the Leadership Hall program in 2020. She also organizes Brenau groups for annual education events, including the Career Path Fair for local middle school students; Wall serves on the board of directors for Junior Achievement Northeast Georgia.

"I am honored to be recognized by the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce," Wall said. "Brenau goes hand in hand with the community we serve, and we have been making a difference in the lives of students and the Gainesville/Hall County community for 146 years."

Before coming to Brenau, Wall held a corporate communications position at Georgia Power Co. and was assistant to the dean of off-campus academic affairs and later the associate dean of academic affairs at Truett-McConnell College. She earned a master's degree in education from North Georgia College, where she also received a bachelor's degree in social science secondary education.
The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1908, and serves local businesses and community members in the entire Hall county area through economic development, small business programs, education and community resources, and government relations, among other things.
