Local Law Enforcement Executive Attends Professional Development Program

Chief David Goodwin of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is one of sixty law enforcement executives from across the state to participate in the course "Enduring, Surviving and Thriving as a Law Enforcement Executive" hosted by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute. The orientation for new police chiefs was held September 17 to September 20, in East Peoria.

This new chiefs' of police orientation presents concepts, strategies and information that will guide the law enforcement executive in managing and leading the organization effectively. Goodwin received training on a variety of subjects including legal issues, mandated requirements of Illinois law enforcement agencies, leadership, state and federal resources and political realities.

The SIUE Police Department (SIUE PD) is a full-service law enforcement agency committed to ensuring the safety and security of the university community. The department works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and local law enforcement to maintain a safe and welcoming campus environment.

Founded in 1992, the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute guides the professional development of managers and leaders in the law enforcement community. Located at Western Illinois University, the Executive Institute addresses the numerous challenges that today's law enforcement administrators face and those that will emerge as important issues during the course of the next decade and beyond.
